Hillbilly Pools and the Start of Summer

Hillbilly pools = very large buckets set on the driveway, filled up with cool water and arranged invitingly with pool toys.
Hillbilly pools = a water container that the kids actually play in, opposed to the socially acceptable pools that they completely ignore.
Hillbilly pools = the single best way to beat the heat at Grandma's house.
Hillbilly pools = hours of entertainment for very little fuss.

And thus the bright hot days of summer begin. Many changes are on the horizon for this family but some things never change and those things lift us up and connect all the days and years of our lives. Things like; the smell of sunblock, the way your shoulders get hot in the afternoon sun, they way a little girl's hair can pick up the fragrance of the sun, the way a little boy will curl his toes inside of his first pair of flip-flops, the way back yard pool water gets murky after a long day of in and outs, the way bike tires sound on hot pavement, the way a popsicle tastes when it's brought out at just the right time, the sound of cicadas humming in the trees, the dappled sunlight under your favorite tree....
